Registered Medical Assistant

A Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) performs clinical and administrative functions in a variety of settings, such as physician offices, hospitals, clinics, urgent care centers, and more. Some clinical duties performed by RMAs include direct patient care and preparation, phlebotomy, ECG, and pharmacology, ensuring patient safety and confidentiality. Some administrative duties they may also perform include scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and billing and coding insurance.

Do I need CPR for my Route?

Yes, you need a valid CPR certification for RMA eligibility.  A copy of your CPR card is required when applying. 

What counts as full-time work experience?

3 years of full-time experience within the last 7 years that includes both clinical and administrative duties qualifies as full-time work experience.

What if I graduated more than 4 years ago?

If you graduated more than 4 years ago, email a copy of your transcripts, diploma, or certificate to documents@americanmedtech.org(opens in new tab)

Can I apply before graduation?

Yes, students in their final semester or those finishing their externship begin the application process. However, final transcripts are needed after graduation.

Which forms do I upload?

If you graduated within the last 4 years, contact your school and arrange to provide final, official and signed transcripts to AMT by emailing it to documents@americanmedtech.org.

If you graduated longer than 4 years ago, email a copy of your transcripts, diploma, or certificate to documents@americanmedtech.org.

If employment verification is needed, download the appropriate employment verification form on the AMT Resource Centerto provide to your employer. Return the completed documents to AMT via the instructions provided on the bottom of the form.
