How to Maintain Your Certification

Pay your annual renewal fee

Your annual renewal fee is required to keep your certification active. Payment is due each year and includes access to your membership benefits.

Earn and record your CCP points

To maintain certification, you need to earn the required CCP points for your credential throughout your three-year cycle. AMT recommends earning and recording approximately one-third of your required points each year to stay on track.

Note: Retaking your certification exam does not count toward CCP compliance.

What Qualifies for CCP?

To determine if an activity qualifies, refer to the categories below. As a general rule, any activity related to a specific item on the exam content outline for your AMT certification will qualify.

AMT accepts activities that meet at least one of the following criteria:

Enhances your ability to perform your healthcare job

Broadens your knowledge in the healthcare field

Prepares you for advanced healthcare management, a healthcare degree, or another program of study in the healthcare field

CCP Guidance Document
Professional Education

Professional training completed through your employer, certifying organization, or online provider.

Examples:

  • AMT Learning Center courses
  • Employer-required training such as OSHA, HIPAA, and safety courses
  • CPR training with hands-on demonstration
  • Healthcare-related seminars and conferences
  • Volunteer work such as health fairs
  • EPIC courses

Note: New hire training, orientation, or onboarding courses are not considered acceptable CE activities.

Supporting documents: Proof of attendance showing the name of the training provider, course title and description, participant name, date of program, length of program, contact hours or CEUs awarded, and validation by the official presenting the program (e.g., certificate of attendance or training transcript).

Points conversion: No maximum points per three-year CCP cycle.

  • 1 CEU, CME, or PACE = 1 point
  • 1 Volunteer Event = 0.5 points
  • Training measured by time (must accumulate in 15-minute increments): 1 hour = 1 point / 45 minutes = 0.75 points / 30 minutes = 0.5 points / 15 minutes = 0.25 points

CPR points breakdown (may claim once every 2 years, submit a copy of your certification card):

  • First Aid = 2 points
  • BLS = 4 points
  • CPR = 3 points
  • CPR/AED = 4 points
  • CPR/AED and First Aid = 6 points

TST Certification: 4 points. May claim once per three-year CCP cycle.

Formal Education

College-level courses pertaining to your certification or another healthcare-related field. Courses must be completed with a grade of C or higher.

  • 1 Semester Hour (15–17 weeks) = 5 points
  • Continuing Education/Non-Credit: 10 hours = 1 point
Authorship of Written Works

Published written works related to your certification or another healthcare field.

Examples: Published articles related to your certification or healthcare field.

Supporting documents: Copy of the published work.

Points conversion: No maximum points per three-year CCP cycle.

  • 1 Written Work = 10 points
Instructional Presentation

Preparing and delivering a presentation related to your certification or another healthcare field. Presentations must be beyond the scope of your regular job duties to be eligible.

Examples: Instructional presentations or workshops related to your certification or healthcare field.

Supporting documents: A program listing your presentation or a copy of the presentation, including the presenter's name and presentation date.

Points conversion: No maximum points per three-year CCP cycle.

  • 1 Unique Presentation = 7 points
Organizational Participation

Active and formal participation on a committee related to your certification or healthcare field.

Examples: Serving on a committee through a professional organization or at your place of employment for Standards or Safety, Quality Improvement, Patient Advocacy, Process Improvement, Policy Review, or similar roles.

Supporting documents: Acknowledgment from the organization such as meeting minutes.

Points conversion: Maximum of 9 points per three-year CCP cycle.

  • 1 Year of Participation = 3 points

FAQ

Are annual renewal fees refundable? No. Annual renewal fee payments are non-refundable.

Do I need to submit documentation for my CCP points? No. AMT does not review or accept CCP documentation unless you are selected for the annual CCP audit or are reactivating your certification.

What happens if I am selected for a CCP audit? If you are randomly selected, you must provide supporting documentation for all reported CCP activities. Keep documentation organized throughout your three-year cycle so it is readily available if needed.

Does my employment count toward CCP points? No. As of January 1, 2021, regular work hours no longer qualify for CCP points. However, documented workplace training such as OSHA, HIPAA, and CPR qualifies under Professional Education.

Do CE courses from the AMT Learning Center count toward CCP? Yes. CE courses completed through the AMT Learning Center are automatically recorded in your portal and count toward your CCP requirements.

What is the maximum number of points I can earn per category? Most categories have no maximum. Formal Education is capped at 45 points and Organizational Participation is capped at 9 points per three-year CCP cycle.
