Certifying Excellence in Allied Health

Why should you certify with AMT?

There can be a confusing array of certification agency acronyms that just all sound the same, but they’re not. American Medical Technologists (AMT) stands out as a leader in allied health certification with credentials recognized as a quality mark of excellence across the medical, laboratory, and dental fields.

Applicants want to earn the AMT certification to place beside their name because it demonstrates to employers, patients and peers that your knowledge, skills and experiences have met AMT’s well-respected standards, including*:

  • Completed an approved education program
  • Obtained externship or work experience
  • Passed an exam administered with secure testing protocols

*(Qualifications differ by certification and route, see specific requirements at Get Certified)

AMT credentials are requested and preferred for their high quality by many employers. Obtaining an AMT certification not only opens doors with professional credibility, but also provides you with advantages throughout your career, such as:

  • Higher pay potential
  • National portability
  • Greater job responsibility
  • Career ladder opportunities

When certified by AMT you become a member of an association dedicated to building a stronger, more competent allied health workforce with resources to:

  • Optional study materials
  • Applications valid for one year
  • Candidate handbook

AMT is a not-for-profit association led by members who prioritize quality patient care and maintaining professional standards, not shareholder equity. Learn more about AMT’s mission and values.

Why should organizations partner with AMT?

Educators endorse AMT as an independent validator of the knowledge, skills and experiences they have taught. The school’s employment metrics improve as their students get hired due to AMT’s quality credentials. AMT supports educators with curriculum reinforcement tools.

Employers trust AMT’s certification process that ensures the allied health professionals they hire are well-prepared with practical knowledge and clinical externships, reducing extra training time upon entering their workforce.

When employers partner with AMT they can leverage both AMT certification and AMT learning resources for upskilling, workforce development, apprenticeships and competency maintenance requirements.

Commitment to Quality Patient Care

AMT was founded in 1939 with the sole purpose of serving the public trust in allied health and advancing quality patient care. Our partners and members compose our organization and serve as the driving force behind our mission. These professionals help establish AMT as a leader in allied health credentialing and set the high standard that preserves the reputation that every member upholds with the AMT designation behind their name.

Secure Exams

Our well-regarded examination format takes place at Pearson Professional Assessments facilities. Candidates are vetted upon entry. Phones and other smart devices are not allowed, and independent proctors monitor the testing process. This helps protect the integrity of our certification exams and ensures students master the material. All exams are NCAA accredited.

Practical and Current Assessment

Our Examinations, Qualifications, and Standard Committees (EQS) are dedicated to continually monitoring, developing, and evolving examination questions. This ensures AMT certification exams stay current with the real-world needs of patient care. The EQS Committee for each certification is comprised of AMT certified practitioners, working or instructing in their profession, and as subject matter experts in their fields, they provide the input for new exam content.

Integrity

Our industry-respected credentials validate curriculum with objective examinations that ensure students are properly prepared in their fields. We are honored to partner with leading educational institutions who recognize that if the certification exam is too easy, or improperly administered, it creates risk for patient care and therefore ruins the reputation of educational programs.

Concierge Service Focused

At AMT, our educator and employer partnered organizations know they can rely upon the expertise of our Partner Team, available to help with any questions you may have regarding affiliation, supporting materials, or assisting a student or staff member with their certification through your program. We pride ourselves on 1:1 communication where you can expect to connect with a live person for your needs.
